Responsibilities:

• Design opto-mechanical systems from concept to detailed drawings using SolidWorks
• Collaborate closely with optical, electronic, and systems engineers to deliver functional designs
• Perform FEA (thermoelastic, static, dynamic) on components including deformation of optical surfaces
• Support assembly, integration, and testing in cleanroom environments
• Liaise with suppliers and manage manufacturing activities and work packages
• Produce design documentation, maintain logs, and create technical review material

Skills & experience:

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
• Proven experience in the design, build, and test of opto-mechanical systems, ideally for space applications
• Strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks or similar) and FEA experience (e.g. ANSYS)
• Knowledge of mounting optics (lenses, mirrors, filters), kinematic principles, and material selection
• Excellent problem-solving skills in stress, thermal, and vibration analysis
• Familiarity with BS8888 drawing standards and a quality-assured engineering environment
