Senior Backend Engineer (Java) | Up to £70k | Remote | E-Commerce
 
We’re currently working with an international e-commerce brand as they look to recruit a Senior Backend Engineer to join their Tech Team. In this role, you will shape high-quality solutions, mentor others, and play a key part in moving their product forward. You will be central to designing scalable systems, championing best practices, and collaborating closely with product managers and stakeholders in a truly agile environment.

What you’ll do
 
  • Deliver robust, secure, and scalable backend solutions using Java and open-source technologies
  • Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to shape roadmaps and define solutions that deliver real value
  • Provide accurate estimates, validate team estimates, and keep projects on track
  • Guide and mentor developers, fostering collaboration and continuous learning
  • Support the Tech Lead, ensuring quality across functional, performance, and security requirements
  • Step in as Tech Lead when needed, supporting planning, team discussions, and project delivery
 
What you’ll bring
 
  • 5+ years’ experience in server-side development with Java, Spring, and related open-source tools
  • Deep expertise in: Java 21+, Spring Boot, Hibernate/JPA, SQL, Git, Maven, AWS
  • Strong knowledge of cloud design, scalability, performance, and security best practices
  • Familiarity with tools like RX Java, PostgreSQL, Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, and Terraform
  • Solid grasp of design patterns, web security, and modern development practices
  • Proven ability to learn fast, solve complex problems, and share knowledge across a team
  • Passion for building technology that makes a real impact
