Principal Electrical Hardware Engineer/PCB Designer | Chelmsford | Space Engineer

A well-established engineering organisation is seeking a Principal Electrical Hardware Engineer/PCB Designer at team lead level to join their growing space technology division. This role is ideal for someone already leading a small team or an experienced engineer ready to step up.

You’ll be working on advanced imaging systems, developing and testing electronics that power high-performance sensors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop PCBs for high-speed space applications
  • Create schematics, select components, and work with external layout engineers
  • Define system architecture and interface documentation
  • Prepare technical documents and lead design reviews
  • Lead and carry out verification and testing of electronics
  • Mentor junior engineers and ensure quality standards are upheld
What We’re Looking For:
  • Strong experience in PCB design and high-speed digital circuitry
  • Proficient with PCB CAD tools (ideally CADENCE or ALTIUM)
  • Ability to present complex electrical designs clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Solid understanding of electronics fundamentals and electrical interface design
  • Experience in high-reliability standards (space/aerospace/defence experience a plus)
