Chief Engineer – Space Launch Systems
An exciting opportunity to work with a fast-paced, mission-driven aerospace and defense organization pioneering next-generation propulsion and launch technologies. Their team is tackling some of the hardest problems in aerospace, and looking for a Chief Engineer to lead the development of an orbital launch vehicle from design through to launch pad.
This senior leadership role will oversee a multidisciplinary engineering team, drive technical excellence, and ensure the success of their space launch program.
What You’ll Do
- Own all technical design and development of the launch vehicle.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams through major reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR).
- Oversee system decomposition, interface definition, and subsystem integration.
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards, quality, and safety requirements.
- Manage technical risk, cost, and schedule.
- Guide root cause analysis and corrective actions for anomalies.
- Mentor and develop engineering staff while fostering a high-performance culture.
- Provide technical expertise to leadership and support business development efforts.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, or similar.
- 15+ years of space launch system development and operations, including at least 5 years in engineering leadership.
- Deep technical background in aerospace system design, integration, and testing.
- Proven ability to lead large, complex projects and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong program management, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
- Excellent communicator, able to convey complex technical ideas to varied audiences.
- Eligible to work under U.S. export regulations (ITAR).
Nice to Have
- Advanced degree (MS/PhD) or Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
- Experience with hybrid rocket propulsion systems.
- Familiarity with launch vehicle operations and ground systems.
- Knowledge of industry standards and government regulations.
- Active or obtainable security clearance.
